The process: Logbook
The creation of the artifact Parallel 3 was recorded in a systematic way. The evolution (or retrogression, including the artist's frustrations) allowed an almost constant reflection on the contents and the concept. It is also a critical record of the experience lived by the artist – who is also a researcher in Communication, Art and Technology – in order to enrich and objectify it. This process was recorded sequentially and chronologically in a Logbook.
“The Logbook thus assumes a metamediatic, multidimensional, creative, dynamic character, inheriting traits from the graphic diaries, its predecessors, but allowing greater involvement and sharing with other agents of the creative ecosystem, even during its writing, in an iterative evolution where external influences can be included, stimulating self-reflection and critical analysis, allowing and facilitating the exploration of different paths, without losing, however, the notion of the objectives and global planning of the project. (…) In addition, the Logbook is an important reinforcement for building a literacy of digital media art itself. (...) The Logbook is, therefore, a hyperwritten record (in the sense of being potentially constructed by hypertext, hyperlinks and multimedia objects) that documents an evolutionary path, often collaborative, through uninhibited discovery and cycles of revisiting, meditation and self-criticism, aiming at construction of knowledge and communication through the aesthetics, aptitude and function of the work thus created.” (Pedro A. Da Veiga)
The Logbook of the Parallel 3 artifact assumes a digital blog form and is available here.
